Roger Federer Win Us Open 2008 - INTERVIEW

Roger Federer can breathe. Winner of his 5th consecutive title at the U.S. Open, Switzerland could not dream best scenario for relaunch, a month after being deprived of his rank of World N.1 by Rafael Nadal.

What do these five consecutive victories in New York?

R.F.: I am proud of what I accomplished. Nobody has ever done (win five Wimbledon and five U.S. Open on). It's incredible. I told myself that it was feasible at Wimbledon, having it resurfaced in the U.S. Open is fantastic. This victory a special flavor.

Were you confident at the start of the tournament?

R.F.: I have always believed in my chances. I came in very good after my gold medal in the Olympic Games (in doubles with her compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka). It made me forget what I had lived in recent months. The matches against Andreev was the key. (Igor Andreev pushed Federer to five rounds in the 8th finals, ndlr) Then I started to play better. In the end, I was in control. I felt invincible at times.

In fact, you can reclaim this place N.1?

R.F.: It will be difficult. Today was a milestone. I do not know what it takes to get there.
